Who is “Jewelry Childs”?
Wednesday is my night to cook. My phone rang and it was my friend “H”. She said,”Hey are you home? I am around the corner with “A” (her partner) and we’re waiting for an order. Can we come by?”
“Of course you can.” I told her. A visit from H is always a mood booster she is exuberance incarnate. In an amazing gift from the universe she recently found someone who is the Yin to her Yang and they are now “H & A”.
We start bantering and I mention the difficulty I am having cracking the internet algorithm to make my website, this one right here, show up in a search engine. A says, “You need a blog.”
“Really?”I squeak, incredulously.
“Yup.” A nods sagely.
“She loves to write.” Chimes my spouse, partner, and personal chef “J”
“But what would I call it? What do I write about?” I query.
“You need a persona, you could add videos of yourself wearing a cool mask for anonymity and show people your crazy side.” H announces.
“I don’t think so.” I demure. “If I wrote though, what would I write about? Would I just write about me?"
“Jewelry Childs!” J proclaims “You could do videos os Jewelry Childs.”
“YEAH!” H shouts excitedly, ”You could cut back and forth with clips of Julia Childs prepping food but put your hands making jewelry instead! Do the voice! OMG do the voice!”
We all laughed and I refused to impersonate the imitable chef, who I adore and admire. Some part of this silliness made sense though, the blog. J is right, I do love waxing poetic or sardonic about whatever is on my mind. I have too many thoughts sometimes. I can be occasionally witty and like Julia, I have a burning desire but a lack of audience or recognition. I also feel cooking and creating are the same. Trial - error- practice-repeat. Creation takes determination.
So in recognition of A’s good idea, and since I cannot afford to pay him the consulting fee he deserves, here lives Jewelry Childs. With deep and abiding love for my partner and friends who possess profound humor and offer amazing support.
